Vizada and Nairobi-based Indigo Telecom have launched the ThurayaIP satellite service in Kenya, comprising broadband mobile satellite terminal, communications airtime, prepaid billing, and technical support. The full package will be provided to customers based in Kenya and operating in other parts of East Africa, notably southern Sudan and Somalia these include security companies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working on food programs and media organizations.
ThurayaIP is an A5-sized mobile satellite terminal which, when plugged into a laptop computer, provides broadband data connectivity at speeds of 444 kbps, and video streaming up to 384 kbps. It enables customers to send emails, use internet, and perform videoconferencing in remote areas where traditional telecoms infrastructure has been damaged or never existed. other uses include telemedicine and surveillance. in addition to terminals and airtime, Vizada combines the ThurayaIP terminal with a range of Vizada Solutions, including the Universal Card service which enables remote workers to call and email contact friends and family, as well as use the internet over a single prepaid card. in addition, Vizadas Terralink Data Manager online tool helps customers monitor,manage and filter data traffic over broadband IP services such as ThurayaIP.
